Ana G. Méndez University System (AGMUS) is the largest private university system in Puerto Rico, and the fastest growing university system on the island with a combined total enrollment of over 36,000 undergraduate and graduate level students (Spring 2005). This education system, which was founded in 1949 and guided by the vision and leadership of Prof. Ana G. Méndez, established Puerto Rico's first two-year higher education institution—Puerto Rico Junior College.

On the verge of celebrating its 65th anniversary, AGMUS is comprised of three fully accredited higher education institutions: Universidad del Turabo, Universidad del Este, and Universidad Metropolitana. In addition, AGMUS includes the Center for Telecommunications and Distance Education (CETED in Spanish), which offers the only interactive television service in Puerto Rico, and the only private PBS-sponsored educational television stations on the island (WMTJ-Channel 40 and WQTS-Channel 26).

SUAGM has also attained academic recognition in academic fields such as Engineering, Science and Technology, Environmental Affairs, and Hospitality Management and Tourism, among others.

Through the years, AGMUS has made advances and has stood out as the leader in the application of telecommunication and other technologies in Puerto Rico. Thanks to the excellent work of its three university institutions, AGMUS has also attained academic recognition in academic fields such as Engineering, Science and Technology, Environmental Affairs, Hospitality Management, and Tourism, among others.

In 1996, AGMUS joined efforts with Regis University to establish the School for Professional Studies in Puerto Rico and the first accelerated studies program in Spanish for adults in the world. Through its accelerated programs, the School for Professional Studies has become AGMUS's fastest growing division.
